One solid crew.

We are three friends and carpenters who care about the craft and the communities we build for.

What does B.I.G. stand for?

Mark Blyth of B.I.G. Timber Contracting

Mark’s been in carpentry for 15 years, earning his Red Seal in 2016 after apprenticing under a generation of old-school builders. That experience shaped his standards - sharp, efficient, and with excellence as the baseline.

Before starting B.I.G. Timber with Tayler and Sean, he worked as a project manager on multi-million dollar custom homes - deepening his understanding of the full build, from big-picture planning to fine details and smooth collaboration across trades.

Mark’s strength is thinking three steps ahead. He keeps jobs moving forward with precision and sees clear communication as a craft in its own right.

Tayler Ireland
Co-Owner, Red Seal Carpenter

Tayler grew up in a construction zone, watching his parents flip houses throughout his childhood. That early exposure led him into the trade, where he’s now worked for over a decade, earning his Red Seal in 2020. He and Mark spent that decade building side by side across two companies - and later, Tayler teamed up with Sean on high-end renovations before B.I.G. Timber came to life.

On site, Tayler brings creativity, care, and a deep respect for the craft.

He’s always looking for the cleanest way to execute a detail — and takes pride in finishes that feel intentional and built to last.

Sean Gendron
Co-Owner, Carpenter

Sean’s been in construction for over 15 years, and for the last 5, he's been focused on the detail and precision of interior finishing. He’s one of Mark’s oldest friends, and before B.I.G Timber, he worked closely with Tayler high end renovations.

Sean has a natural ease with people. He’s often the first face clients meet, and he’s got a knack for building strong, comfortable working relationships. He cares deeply about helping people feel at home in their space - not just because it’s well-built, but because the whole process feels smooth, respectful, and honest.

How we work.

Because we’ve known each other for years - as friends and on job sites - trust runs deep, and the builds run smooth.

That familiarity means we get into a flow state fast. And when we’re in sync, the work is more fun, more efficient, and more precise. We poke fun, work hard, and keep each other sharp.

The result? Tight timelines, solid craftsmanship, and a build process that feels easy on your end.

We are B.I.G. Timber.

From left to right: Blyth, Ireland, Gendron.

We’re three friends and carpenters who built together in previous crews and all came to Vancouver Island to create a new life, closer to the nature we love.

Starting a company wasn’t part of the plan. We quickly realized it was the only way, and teamed up to start B.I.G. Timber Contracting.

Together, we have the experience to take a home from the ground up, deliver fine finishing, and manage builds of any size.

B.I.G. Timber pushes us to grow, do better, and stand behind every detail.

We are here to offer what every homeowner deserves:

Solid craftsmanship, clear communication, and a crew that’s as reliable as the homes we bring to life.
